What Does Airoxy® Do?
Airoxy® treats wastewater to such a high standard that the water can be released into the environment or recycled on lawns and gardens in compliance with the most stringent local requirements.
Airoxy® is a biological purification Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) process based on a variation of the activated sludge process combining all the treatment steps and processes into a single tank.
Air is injected into the biological reactor in order to stir the sewage and to feed oxygen to bacteria that circulates freely in the mixed liquor. These bacteria support the biological activity to breakdown organic matter.
Unlike other conventional activated sludge units, this SBR processes the incoming influent with activated sludge where all operations (activation, settling and clarification) are conducted sequentially in a single tank.
How Does Airoxy® Work?
1 Buffer Tank Section
The buffer tank section provides an effective mean to handle peak inflows into the SBR reactor. It has sufficient capacity to retain the influent during the sequential stages of settling and discharging
2 SBR Reactor Inflow and Activation
The inflow stored in the buffer tank section feeds the reactor. While the reactor is filling, a blower supplies air at a rate that matches the organic loading. This also provides a means of mixing the incoming influent and the activated sludge.[/toggle]
When the reactor is full, the liquid level sensor switches off the mixing and aeration sequence to start the clarification process allowing solids to settle at the bottom of the tank. Buring this time, no incoming inflow enters the reactor section fo the tank and the influent is retained in the buffer tank section. The flocculated sludge settles to the bottom of the reactor, and the clarified supernatant water clearly separates from the sludge.[/toggle]
4 Releasing the Water to the Environment
The supernatant water is then drawn from the reactor through floating pipes so as not to disturb the settled sludge, and released to the environment.[/toggle]
5 Sludge wasting and Storage of Sludge
To maintain an optimum level of biological mass in the reactor the excess sludge generated during the biological treatment must be periodically withdrawn from the reactor. Alternatively the excess sludge can be pumped to a storage silo to be periodically emptied.
A Submersible pump is placed at the bottom of the reactor to also pump part of the activated sludge back to the buffer tank section in order to maintain the biological process[/toggle]
